FIELD WORK

HISTORY

In 1998, we began reaching out to the red-light community and witnessed the difficult circumstances faced by women and children. This led us to continue visiting the brothels, building relationships with the women and exploring ways to respond to their needs with care and dignity. Deepika Social Welfare Society works directly within the community through a holistic and relationship-based approach. For over 25 years, Deepika Social Welfare Society has worked alongside women and children in Sonagachi, providing holistic support that empowers individuals, strengthens families, and creates opportunities for a better future.

WHAT WE DO

Our dedicated field workers visit the red-light area five days a week, building relationships and responding to the needs of women and children in the community.
In the red light area, we work in the following ways with members of the community:
  1. Assess needs and provide appropriate support and care.
Identify children who need educational assistance and support them at their point of need.

  2. Provide care and protection to children who are vulnerable or at risk.

  3. Through our Field Work we help ladies and students get alternative employment opportunities.
    · Short-term skills training for the ladies
    · Counselling and awareness sessions
