VOCATIONAL UNIT

OBJECTIVE

“To provide skill trainings, functional literacy and alternate income generation opportunities to adolescent girls who ae at high risk and the women who are desirous to come out of sex-trade and become economically self-reliant”


RATIONALE

Illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, dowry demands, fraudulent marriages, abduction, sexual violence and the lure of easy money are among the factors that can push girls and women into the sex trade, while their children may become vulnerable to the same cycle.

How will the income generation project help?

  • It helps the adolescent girls and women gradually come out of sex industry and become economically self-reliant with decent job opportunities.
    
  • Equips them with vocational skills, functional literacy, basic idea of maintaining their own accounts, marketing etc.

HISTORY

The Vocational Unit started in December 2005 with 9 women. In the current batch, we have about 20 women in the program. At least 80-90 women have been trained and reintegrated into society and are now working in different establishments based on the skills they acquired.

WHAT WE DO

The Vocational Unit empowers women from red-light areas by providing opportunities for economic rehabilitation and a pathway towards self-reliance. Through skills training and meaningful employment, many women have gained confidence, hope and dignity.
We provide:
  • Vocational and life-skills training
  • Functional literacy
  • Support towards economic self-reliance and dignified employment
  • Educational assistance for their children
  • Necessary medical care
  • Subsidised meals
  • Basic training in financial management, record-keeping
